Financial ombudsman publishes new complaints data

The Financial Ombudsman has published complaints data covering the six months from 1st January to 30th June 2018. The figures are provided to help people to see how individual financial businesses handled their customer complaints.

New cases received by the ombudsman service in this six-month period are from consumers dissatisfied with the financial business’s response to their complaint. This number is likely to reflect the size of the business involved.

Top figures for new complaints to banks and building societies for the six-month period:

• HSBC Bank: 7,981
• Santander UK: 7,223
• NatWest Bank: 6,762
• Nationwide Building Society: 6,080
• The Royal Bank of Scotland: 4,412

• TSB Bank: 2,244
• Clydesdale Bank: 1,037
• The Co-operative Bank: 1,006
